Bianca Gismonti Trio

From Dream to Sky
Adapted from the original text by Brazilian Journalist Roberto Muggiati.
Bianca’s entire art was naturally born out of the affective bonds she´s weaved throughout her life. As a due heiress of her father´s musicality – the great composer, pianist and guitarist Egberto Gismonti - she started, at the ripe age of 15, to accompany him on tour around the world. During her musical college years, she befriended Claudia Castelo Branco, another young pianist, with whom would co-found “Duo Gisbranco” – growing into a successful eleven year career comprising of three albums, one DVD and extensive world-wide touring.
Yet, the encounter with drummer/percussionist Julio Falavigna was bound to happen. Based on Bianca’s new compositions, they’ve taken their personal union over to the musical field, together conceiving and producing “Sonhos de Nascimento” (Dreams of Birth).
Furthermore, from 2013 to 2014, they’d consolidate a trio format alongside bassist Antonio Porto, thus realizing a common sonic identification, touring South America (Brasil, Argentina, Uruguay), Europe (England, Austria, Spain and Portugal) as well as Japan (at the prestigious Cotton Club venue).
Traveling from explorations towards solutions, the larve-like sleep of “Dreams of Birth” (“Sonhos de Nascimento”) blossoms unto the butterfly-ish free flight of “First Sky” (“Primeiro céu”). Her new 2015 Trio album unveils fresh musical horizons that capture the gist of MPB (with one unexpected new arrangement for “Água de Beber” by Tom Jobim), jazzy voyages (“Olhos Fechados”,”Cristal”), powerful songs (“Dança, Mandela”) and the lullaby which gave name to the album (“Primeiro céu de Marina”).
Now for early 2016, a full DVD is about to be launched, containing both a studio “making of” the new album as well as exciting live footage from recent concerts.

Bianca Gismonti was born in a family of musicians. Since a very young age,she would attend her father's concerts, accompanied by her mother - actress Rejane Medeiros - and brother - guitarist Alexandre Gismonti. Her house was full of musical influences, being also a meeting point for dozens of important artists whom Bianca got to know. At age nine, she asked to start taking piano lessons. Already at fifteen, she launched her musical career as an accompanist to her father, on various stages around the world for many years. Her piano studies carried on at UFRJ University in Rio until 2005, when "Duo Gisbranco"(a piano duo with peer Claudia Castelo Branco)made its debut, having since recorded three albums and two DVDs,with allied musical partnerships with the likes of composer Chico César, cellist Jaques Morelembaum and singer Monica Salmaso.

Along these years, the habit of composition followed her footsteps as a natural path until, in 2013, she launched her first self-authored album, "Sonhos de Nascimento"(Biscoito Fino label), with guest participation of percussionist Nana Vasconcellos, among others. After this record, she made international tours around Europe, Asia and South America. At the end of 2015 came her second album, named "Primeiro Céu"(Fina Flor label), having since established the trio formation besides her husband Julio Falavigna on drums (who also co-produced both albums)and Antonio Porto on bass. This record had special apeearances by singer Jane Duboc and harmonica player José Staneck. In 2016, the same album was to be released by Impartment Records(Japan) and Quinton Records(Austria),allowing for a new round of tours over Europe, Africa and Asia, during which her new album (to be released in 2018) - "Unveiling Seas" was recorded in Budapest, under Hunnia Records.

All throughout, besides her own compositions, her fathers'repertoire remained part and parcel of her soul, being somewhat always present during the performances. In this year of 2017, celebrating Egberto's 70th Birthday in December, Bianca decided to put together a full set-list in his honour, with many of the compositions which became hallmarks of his career. Classics such as "Palhaço","Lôro", "Água e Vinho"and "Maracatu" are in this new show which promises to captivate audiences worldwide in 2018.
